Ensuring Quality Excellence in Steel Fabrication

April 12, 2024

At MMI Industrial & Steel, quality is the basis by which we do business. It is the foundation of everything we do – from Industrial Services to Steel Erection. It starts at material selection and is reinforced all the way to final product delivery. Our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality is unwavering. In a recent interview with Danielle Medina, QA/QC Manager, we gained insights into the stringent measures and procedures MMI implements to ensure excellence in our steel fabrication operations, particularly in adherence to American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) certification standards.

Striving for Excellence in Adherence to AISC Standards

Medina emphasized that maintaining adherence to AISC standards is of the utmost importance in our quality control processes. She explained, "Our Quality department maintains the highest level of quality, especially in the adherence to AISC standards. This requires a comprehensive approach which integrates various measures throughout the production process." Regular inspections are conducted at various stages of production to identify and rectify any deviations from requirements, ensuring that our products meet or exceed AISC certification standards.

Integration of AISC Certification Requirements

Integration of AISC certification requirements into our quality control processes is a fundamental aspect of our operations. Medina highlighted, "Our quality control process starts with the implementation of our Quality Control System." She elaborated on the comprehensive procedures established, from drawing standards to shipping protocols, ensuring compliance with AISC standards every step of the way. For instance, MMI meticulously documents welding procedures, welder certifications, and inspections to guarantee adherence to the proper codes and standards for each job.

Consistency & Excellence from Material Selection to Final Product

Maintaining consistency and excellence throughout the steel fabrication process is crucial to our success. Medina provided insight into how MMI achieves this: "Our approach involves a combination of rigorous processes, advanced technologies, and a commitment to quality at every stage."

- Material Selection: Our procurement team meticulously evaluates suppliers based on their track record, certifications, and quality processes, ensuring only high-quality materials are used in our projects.

- Precision Manufacturing: We employ state-of-the-art technologies such as computer-aided design, Computerized Numerical Control or CNC machines, and robotic welding systems, such as the Voortman V808, to maintain accuracy, precision, and consistency in manufacturing processes.

- Quality Control Inspections: At every stage, our QualityControl Inspectors thoroughly inspect components to ensure they meet specifications before proceeding to the next phase of production.

- Painting and Shipping: Even after assembly, our commitment to quality persists. Final inspections are conducted on every aspect, down to paint thickness, before products are carefully loaded for shipment, ensuring they arrive at the job site in pristine condition.

Building Trust Through Quality

As Medina aptly summarizes, "MMI's dedication and commitment to quality not only results in superior products, but it also helps build a solid foundation of trust and confidence with our clients, reinforcing MMI’s reputation as a leader in the steel fabrication industry." More than a goal for us at MMI Industrial & Steel, quality is a promise to every one of our clients for every project. Through stringent adherence to AISC standards, integration of certification requirements into our processes, and a relentless pursuit of excellence from material selection to final delivery, we continue to set the benchmark for quality in the steel fabrication industry.
